Heating system diagnosis & repair

When the heat isn’t right,
start with a clear answer.

No heat, uneven heating or a system that keeps stopping? KOLD diagnoses heating problems for homes in Raleigh, Cary and surrounding communities and explains what needs attention.

Tell us what has changed.

The heat may not start at all. It may come on briefly, struggle to warm the rooms or behave differently from one day to the next. Let us know what the thermostat says, whether air is moving and when you first noticed the trouble.

You do not need to know whether the fault is in the thermostat, furnace, heat pump or air distribution. That is what the diagnostic visit is for.

Different heating systems need different checks.

KOLD works on heating equipment including furnaces, heat pumps and packaged systems. A gas heating issue and a heat-pump issue do not call for the same diagnosis.

We examine the system, explain what we find and discuss the recommended work. If the condition of the equipment makes replacement worth considering, we will explain that option too.

What you can check before the visit.

Confirm that the thermostat is set to heat and above the current room temperature. Note any message on the display. Check whether an easily accessible filter needs attention and whether vents are obstructed.

Do not open electrical or burner compartments, adjust gas components or bypass a safety switch. If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building and contact emergency services or the gas utility from a safe place. Do not wait for an HVAC appointment.

Repair and replacement are a conversation.

We do not decide the answer from the equipment’s age alone. The fault, overall condition, previous repairs and what you need from the system all matter.

Bring an earlier recommendation or repair history when you have it. KOLD can assess the equipment and explain the available options.

Common questions

Do I need to know what kind of heating system I have?

No. A description or a photo of an accessible equipment label is helpful, but you can request service without it.

Do you offer a second opinion on heating replacement?

Yes. We can examine the equipment and discuss the existing recommendation. Ask about the diagnostic visit and any charges when arranging it.

Do you service heating at businesses?

Yes. Use our commercial HVAC page to tell us about the site, equipment and access arrangements.
